Where is G-Land?

G-Land is located inside Alas Purwo National Park on the southeast coast of Java, Indonesia. Despite being relatively close to Bali, getting there is part of the adventure.

Most surfers travel from Bali by:

• Speedboat (around 2–3 hours)

• Overland via ferry and car (5–7 hours)

Many surf camps also organize transport directly from Bali, making the journey completely hassle-free.

Why is G-Land so famous?

The prime season runs from May to October, during Indonesia's dry season.

This is when consistent Indian Ocean swells combine with offshore winds to produce the clean, mechanical waves G-Land is famous for.

Smaller days can still be found outside the peak season, but if you're chasing perfect barrels, the dry season is the time to go.

What should you bring?

Life at G-Land is pretty remote, so it's worth packing wisely.

We recommend bringing:

• At least two or three surfboards

• Spare fins and leashes

• Reef booties (optional but helpful)

• Reef-safe sunscreen

• Basic first aid supplies

• Plenty of surf wax

• Mosquito repellent

There aren't many surf shops nearby, so it's best to arrive prepared.

Where do you stay?

Accommodation is mainly made up of traditional surf camps located right in front of the wave: JawaJiwa.

Expect simple but comfortable rooms, home-cooked meals, and a relaxed atmosphere where your daily routine revolves around surfing, eating, and sleeping.
